As the links between video games and online casino continue to be taken to new levels, the Game Play series discovers how key characters within the gambling industry embarked on their gaming journey.
In this week’s Game Play feature, we spoke to Andrew Goodale, CEO at Northern Lights Gaming, about his struggles trying to operate a pioneering console, a love for the Halo series and why the franchise’s expansion into Hollywood is “a no brainer”.
Are you a PC or console gamer?
Console, Xbox.
What was your first home gaming experience?
Ad Astra on the ZX Spectrum. Myself and my cousin would spend ages trying to load the game from a cassette and get the volume levels right. Only a certain generation will get what I’m talking about here!
What is your favourite game of all time and why?
Halo series, in particular, the early ones but we don’t talk about those years with my wife. At first, it was just the whole storyline but when the first multiplayer came out, I was hooked. At one point I think I was around the top 10 in the world rankings with a certain ‘pink puffer’ gun – aka the double needler – for all the nerds reading this.
What mobile game have you spent the most time playing?
Hmmmm, SOS State of Survival.
Which mobile game are you currently playing?
SOS State of Survival!
Last video game completed?
Halo Infinity
Favourite video game character?
Master Chief of course, such a cool character – and when they released the first limited series, I was blown away to see this world and all these characters actually on the big screen, and then the Paramount spin off… This blew my mind and still does. I love it.
I remember a few years back a trailer was released for what everyone thought was going to be a Halo film, but it wasn’t. It was a one off thing but I remember vividly watching that and the effort that had been put into it was amazing. Someone should do a Halo film, it’s a no brainer.
Favourite all time slot?
Oh that’s tough, so tough, but it has to be Paws of Fury by Blueprint Gaming. It’s an old game, but came out when Blueprint was doing an amazing set of games including Jungle Jackpots, Wild Antics etc. They used themes so well and put so many bonus games into the games at a production level that still holds up today.
