Julian Sheriff, Head of Operations at Gibfibre spoke to SlotBeats for the latest edition of Game Play, as he revealed his love for Candy Crush and the cinematic feel of Call of Duty.
Are you a PC or console gamer? What was your first home gaming experience?
I’ve always leaned more towards console gaming — PlayStation in particular. My first real home gaming experience was playing FIFA with my brother, probably one of the earlier editions back in the PS2 days. That’s when it clicked for me — the idea of picking your team, building tactics, and shouting at the TV like you’re on the sidelines. It wasn’t just a game; it was weekend tradition.
What is your favourite game of all time and why?
Tough one, but I’d say Football Manager — it just hits differently. There’s something addictive about scouting a wonderkid, building up a squad over multiple seasons, and seeing your tactics pay off. You’re not just playing a game, you’re living the drama of football behind the scenes. It appeals to both the strategist and the dreamer in me.
What mobile game have you spent the most time playing?
Candy Crush, without a doubt. It starts off harmless, but before you know it, you’re five levels deep on your lunch break and thinking about power-ups like they’re stock market trades. It’s the kind of game that makes you say, “just one more try” — and suddenly, half an hour’s gone.
Which mobile game are you currently playing?
Right now, I’m giving Clash Royale a go. Quick matches, strategic gameplay, and a touch of chaos — it’s a nice way to mentally reset between work calls. I’m not climbing leaderboards just yet, but I like how it keeps your brain sharp without needing hours of commitment.
Last video game completed?
I actually finished the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II campaign recently. Even though I’m more of a casual gamer, the cinematic feel, high-stakes missions, and tight storyline made it feel like I was in an action film. I might not be the best shot online, but I held my own in campaign mode!
Favourite video game character?
Probably The Sims version of myself — because let’s be honest, we’ve all created our ideal lives through them! But if I had to pick a classic, I’d go with Soap MacTavish from Call of Duty. Legendary character with just the right mix of grit and personality.
