Online casino innovation could be set to reach new heights next year with the advancement of technology subsequently driving forward the standards of titles across the igaming world.

That is the prediction of Robert Lee, commercial director at Realistic Games, who earlier this year bucked the trend of standard slot launches via a spoof promo for its ‘Funky Spin’ title.

In the almost four minute video the online casino content developer takes a gentle dig at those who sometimes prefer the tried and tested over the bold and brave.

“Innovation in casino content has reached new levels this year and I expect we’ll see some major new developments and concepts in 2020,” Lee commented on what could be in store during the next year.

“As technology is advancing so is the quality of games, which combined with improvements to multi-device functionality gives developers greater freedom to create some outstanding titles and mechanics that create truly unique gaming experiences.

“For Realistic, there are some very exciting releases scheduled in the roadmap and we’re looking forward to another strong year.

“Markets are also shifting quite dramatically. In the UK and Sweden, for example, challenges are on the horizon both on a regulatory and competitive level, but with other jurisdictions opening doors to the online casino sector there is great opportunity for global growth.

“We will be sure to keep an eye on any emerging markets as well as looking to make the most of those already regulated.

“I’M SURE THERE WILL BE MORE M&A ACTIVITY IN 2020 ACROSS BOTH OPERATOR AND SUPPLIER SECTORS”

With new concepts already slated to be under the microscope during 2020, challenges across regulated markets and increased M&A activity is among the predictions laid-out.

“For me, I believe the industry will continue to look for new game concepts and ideas to keep the player engaged. There will be tough challenges ahead in some regulated markets as we have already discussed, and I’m sure there will be more M&A activity in 2020 across both operator and supplier sectors,” he says.

“My boldest prediction – other than Arsenal narrowly avoiding relegation – would have to be watch out for the smaller guy, there may just be a game changer around the corner…”

As the new year fast approaches and 2019 becomes merely a memory, Lee concludes by taking a glance back at a selection of highlights – and one satirical promo in particular.

“In terms of games that we have released, Realistic has had a fantastic year, kicking off with the launch of Reel Gambler, the first game to use our brand-new cabinet display that incorporates the very latest WebGL technology.

“We then caused a splash in the summer with the release of Funky Spin (our very first progressive game) and its satirical promotional video featuring myself and some of Realistic’s talented team. We are immensely proud of this title, so wanted to pull out all the stops and have some fun in the making of it.

“On the commercial side, our deal with Microgaming has been another high point and demonstrates the strength of our portfolio. We also signed further significant deals with leading operators and will start to see those going live in early 2020.”
