Earlier this week Slotmill launched the first title from its ‘Slotmill Classic’ series with high-paced classic-themed slot Wildfire.
The new series is a range of 3×3 slots which combine the classic game format along with familiar symbols and modern gameplay.
SlotBeats caught up with Johan Öhman, co-founder at Slotmill, who explained more about the Slotmill Classic series, how the initial idea was formed and developed, and why there’s a growing appetite for classic titles.
SlotBeats: Can you tell us more about Slotmill Classic and what players can expect from the series?
Johan Öhman: The first game, Wildfire, is set in a traditional slot cabinet and features a Joker that is wild combined with a re-spin function creating suspense and excitement. A Free Spin bonus game with a Golden Wild that awards an accumulating, unlimited, win multiplier and additional free spins, makes the game exciting and fun to play and the maximum win is 1800 times bet!
As with all Slotmill games, the clients are less than 10 MB ensuring super short load times also in poor network conditions. The integrated ”Burst Mode ”, which is an enhanced auto-play, enables a play-through of up to 7200 game rounds per hour.
SlotBeats: How did this initial idea come around and the development process?
JO: We noticed that existing three-reel slots generally offer a sub-standard player experience with few features, poor graphics and very limited win potential. We think that the 3×3 format is ideal particularly on small screens and the fast pace aligns perfectly with player preferences of today.
SB: How do you decide which games are included in the Classic series?
JO: We will take modern slot features and implement them in the 3×3 format where we see fantastic opportunities to create new, engaging and exciting games in a format that is fast, fun and easy to grasp.
SB: Why is there a growing appetite for remastered/classic games to be brought to the forefront?
JO: Players find classic slots attractive as they are intuitive and easy to understand which is enhanced by the traditional casino symbols. For some time we have seen slot games have become increasingly complex and in that environment a relatively simple game can be quite refreshing.
We believe there is a general trend in society with an increasing retro demand not only in gaming, but equally in music and clothing.
SB: What can fans expect from your Classic series in the future?
JO: They can expect slot games with innovative features, fast gameplay, rich graphics / animations, well balanced math with random features – all wrapped in our standard UI container offering an engaging, exciting and rewarding player experience
