CasinoGrounds.com co-founder, Twitch and YouTube streamer Kim Hultman, also known by LetsGiveItASpin, has raised over €45,000 during his 24 hour charity stream all in aid of the WHO fundraiser to help tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
Streaming with his co-host, Blanco, Hultman embarked on his 24-hour streaming challenge where they would do certain challenges when they’d reach donation milestones, including shaving certain parts of his hair and half of his mustache, whilst streaming slot games in the process.
SlotBeats talked exclusively to Hultman where he explained his inspiration behind the money raised, the response he had from his supporters and how the pandemic has effected him.
SlotBeats: In as much detail as possible, can you explain what you did to raise the money?
Kim Hultman: First and foremost I’d like to express how grateful I am to this community. I expected the 24 hour charity stream to raise between €5000 to an optimistic €20,000 but we managed to raise more than €45,000 and exceeded my wildest imaginations.
Both the CasinoGrounds community, other real money streamers as well as viewers donated money and showed support in many different ways.
Essentially what was done was a 24 hour stream for charity with different events along the way. For example, before the stream, I and Blanco (my co-host) pledged that one of us shaves their beard if we reach €5,000, one of us would shave their hair if we reached €10,000 and both shave beard and hair off if we reached €20,000 in total.
Besides this we did something called “egg roulette” every hour that proved very appreciated.
SB: What initially made you want to raise money for the WHO fundraiser?
KH: Initially I wanted to raise funds for suicide prevention, this is a topic very close to my heart as my dad took his own life when I was 17 years old. However, with the COVID-19 outbreak I felt that raising money to help fight the virus, and the things that unfortunately come with it, may help save more lives – which is ultimately what I wanted us to do.
As for choosing WHO, the reasoning was that my stream is international and I want to help on an international level and they are the ones I found best suited for that.
SB: What kind of response and support did you get from your followers?
KH: The response we got from the community was heartwarming, I’m so humbled that as many people donated and many who couldn’t donate shaved their hair or watched and participated hours upon hours of the stream.
The community really stood up and I can’t express in words how grateful I am. I think in these times to contribute is more important than ever and what I noticed is that, although we had a few very big donations, the smaller donations amounted to twice the amount of the big ones. None can do everything but everybody can do something.
SB: How has your work been affected by the current lockdown?
KH: With the lockdown situation I’m always telling people to be careful and plan all activities more carefully than before. As for myself it’s of course boring to be at home all the time but for the sake not spreading the virus more and putting more pressure on our healthcare, I’ve opted to be extremely careful.
As for work, I do it from home instead of from the office and I’m fortunate that I do most of my work from home.
SB: Do you have anything you would like to say to the people who donated to your cause?
KH: I would want to give a MASSIVE thanks to everyone who helped support the charity stream, I love you all.
My advice to others doing a fundraiser is to plan it very carefully – when it’s not just your own money, but others as well, you really don’t want to make mistakes that could come off the wrong way even if done with good intent.
SB: Have you got any further fundraising ideas in mind for the future?
KH: I would love to do another fundraiser in the future. I’ve never been as nervous as I was when doing this one, and while it truly was exhausting, it was one of the most fulfilling moments of my life to do it.
