With Gaming Corps’ much-anticipated Smash4Cash sequel hitting online casinos, Connor Blinman, the company’s Head of Games, spoke to two operators about why non-traditional mechanics are vital for innovation and engaging a new audience.

Non-traditional content is one of our six core game engines, and back in February 2024, we debuted our innovative Smash4Cash mechanic with the launch of Piggy Smash

When developing Smash4Cash and Piggy Smash, we wanted it to appeal to a wide range of players. This includes traditional slot and casino players looking for something a little different, as well as the next generation of players.

These players tend to spend most of their time engaged with mobile and video games, so to draw them away from these experiences, we knew we had to come up with compelling gameplay that would put them on the edge of their seats.

White Hat Gaming’s Content and Lobby Manager, Jamie Lees, says that non-traditional content and game mechanics, such as Smash4Cash, are vital for keeping things “fresh”.

“Non-traditional mechanics and content have a big part to play in keeping things fresh in the online gaming world, and I think this has been proven with the rise of other non-traditional mechanics like crash games,” he explains.

“While classic gameplay will still always be the priority, players are looking for something new and engaging, and titles like Piggy Smash absolutely provide both of those things.”

For Tomas Becks, Casino Manager for Hommerson.nl – which rolled out Piggy Smash to players in the Netherlands – non-traditional content can be the leader for innovation in the sector.

He says: “There is a very important place for non-traditional game mechanics. Innovation is a requirement to make an industry future-proof and when you think about it, every mechanic has started as a non-traditional mechanic.

“This is why the implementation of non-traditional mechanics and games should be encouraged – who knows where it might lead to. They could inspire someone to invent the next big thing or even become the next big thing!”

Piggy Smash is a game in which players swing at great fortunes. They step into the bank vault and test their luck as they bring the hammer down on the piggy bank, smashing it open to reveal prizes.

The title has proved to be a runaway hit with the operators and aggregators that have added it to their game lobbies.

The game has been such a hit that producing a sequel was a no-brainer, with Piggy Smash 2 hitting the market on 29 April.

This time, the vault is bigger, the stakes are higher, and the rewards are more thrilling than ever before.

On the success of the first title amongst players, Becks says: “Our Dutch audience likes classics and new concepts, so I was confident that Piggy Smash would do well with us. The game looks good with the Smash4Cash mechanic adding a totally new element to the gameplay, which many players like to try out.”

For White Hat, which launched Piggy Smash across its network of player-favourite online casino brands, Lees explains that the “smashing” gameplay drew in a strong audience.

“What first grabbed me about Piggy Smash was its cracking gameplay and the clever Smash4Cash mechanic,” says Lee. “I’m confident that White Hat Gaming customers will love it when it launches because it’s a great mix of smashing gameplay with proper chances to win.”

Looking ahead, we have big plans for Smash4Cash, including a run of new titles set to hit online casino lobbies throughout the year. Each game takes a different theme and will appeal to different players. But for Becks, the best Smash4Cash game to date is Buffalo Bash.

“I like Wild West and Native American-themed games so this one appeals to me the most. The balls look like bowling balls, and I recently got my behind kicked by my colleagues at bowling, so I don’t mind a few crushing bowling balls,” concludes Becks.

“I’d love to see more themes, and there are tons out there that would work really well with Smash4Cash, and I’m sure the Gaming Corps team could put a really unique spin on them.”
