Year in Review: iGamingDaily examines key stories from 2024

The iGamingDaily looks back on the key developments from the sector in 2024, during a special episode hosted by Joe Streeter and Danny Lee.

At the heart of the discussion was a landmark year for the Philippines, as the country underwent significant regulatory changes.

The show analysed what the future holds for the region and how it will impact the rest of Asia, which has in some ways hinged on the Philippines.

Streeter emphasised that the decisions in the Philippines come at a vital time for the Asian market as both Japan and Thailand enter the space as players. The panel also reflected on what has been a fantastic year for Macau in terms of the growth of gambling engagement.

One of the other key topics was the rise in copyright cases across the board in the gambling sector, which have caused concern for stakeholders and commentators.

In spite of the cases hindering the sector, they can lead to a new era for innovation in the year ahead. Another factor that could fuel innovation is the continuing growth of M&A activity.

Discussions also turned to developments in the UK, where political changes led to major transitions in terms of the framework that governs the country.

Nonetheless, the podcast detailed that there will be some relief that clarity has finally been found in what the market will look like heading into the new year, specifically around stake limits and the RET Levy.
