Amusnet has taken the next step in its African expansion plans through a new partnership with Betway in South Africa.
As a result of the collaboration, a selection of Amusnet titles, including Shining Crown, 40 Burning Hot, 100 Super Hot, and Burning Hot 6 Reels, will be available to players on the Betway and Jackpotcity platforms in the country.
“Having our content now on both Betway and JackpotCity in South Africa reinforces our position as a trusted partner and paves the way for even greater growth across the region,” said David McBryne, Senior Commercial Account Manager at Amusnet, who also noted that the move paves the way for “greater growth” across the region for the developer.
In August 2024, the developer debuted in the region after establishing a partnership with BetFounders in Ghana, before also establishing a presence in Senegal with Mojabet in October of the same year.
South Africa tax consultation continues
Currently in South Africa, the government is considering a proposal to implement a 20% tax rate on gross gambling revenue derived from online gambling activity in recognition of the sector’s growing popularity.
Although the government has emphasised that the tax is primarily focused on offsetting the social cost associated with gambling, the Ministry of Finance predicts that the tax would raise over R10bn (£457m) in additional revenue – underscoring the strength of the market.
Coupled with provincial tax rates, which vary between 6% and 9%, depending on the location and vertical, the country’s effective tax rate will sit between 26% and 29% if successfully implemented.
“Advances in technology have made online gambling more accessible, changing how people gamble and increasing the variety of gambling products available, which gamblers can now access from anywhere, at any time. It transcends the provincial boundaries and cannot be realistically and fully administered at a provincial level,” states the proposal.
