DraftKings has launched a new Major League Baseball (MLB) product that appears to bring elements of slot titles to its sportsbook offering, called Moonshot.
The feature allows sports bettors to place a single MLB live bet that can increase in value based on multipliers during a game.
This will have a familiar feel to iGaming customers, as the multiplier engagement is a frequent trait of slot titles, having an impact on paylines at random times and it is not required to occur for a player to receive a payout on their bet.
However, if a player cashes out or an out is recorded before the selected target is reached, the bet ends, which draws comparisons to crash game features, although based on a sports outcome instead of a random number generator.
Corey Gottlieb, Chief Product Officer at DraftKings, noted: “DraftKings continues to lead the way in live betting by delivering innovative ways for fans to engage with the game as it happens.
“Moonshot adds to the excitement of betting on a live MLB game, bringing a fun multiplier mechanic to the action. We’re always looking for ways to make live sports more engaging for our customers.”
Before a team’s next qualifying plate appearance, Moonshot players will place a live MLB wager and select a target multiplier, which is tied to batter outcomes, each of which is assigned a predefined value (i.e. Double: +2x), for a potential payout.
Players can cash out at any time before reaching their target payout or an out being recorded. If the selected target payout is reached, a Moonshot bet is settled as a win. If an out is recorded before the target is reached or the customer cashes out, the bet is concluded.
DraftKings will bring Moonshot to 18 jurisdictions across North America initially, including the US markets of Arizona, Connecticut, Colorado, District of Columbia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming, as well as Ontario in Canada.
The operator has yet to confirm whether Moonshot will be integrated into live betting for any other sports beyond MLB.
