This month’s SBC Digital Italia conference will see Marcello Minenna joined by senior representatives from the gambling regulators.

This month’s SBC Digital Italia conference and exhibition will see Marcello Minenna (direttore generale, Agenzia Dogane e Monopoli) joined by senior representatives from the gambling regulators in the Netherlands, France and Ontario for a panel examining the role of the regulator in the betting and gaming industry.

The online event on July 28-29, 2021 is set to bring together 60 senior executives to tackle an agenda that focuses on the key developments in the Italian market and what operators in the country can learn from their counterparts overseas.

With proposed changes to the online licensing regime and the possibility of a complete overhaul of gambling legislation one of the biggest issues faced by the Italian industry, a session that shines a light on how regulators work is particularly timely.

The ‘Role of the Regulator in the Socio-Political Context’ panel on day two of the event will take an in-depth look at how regulators communicate with stakeholders and the objectives they should focus on, with examples of best practice from both Italy and international markets.

In addition to Minenna, the speakers include Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin (présidente, Autorité Nationale des Jeux), René Jansen (chairman, Kansspelautoriteit), and Liz Yeigh (chief strategy officer and corporate secretary, Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario), with Playtech’s chief policy officer Francesco Rodano in the moderator’s chair.

Rasmus Sojmark, founder and CEO of SBC, said: “The regulators session promises to be one of the highlights of SBC Digital Italia. An effective regulator is crucial to the success of any market, so it will be fascinating to hear from people in that role about how they can benefit both players and operators.

“This session forms part of a wide-ranging agenda, which we have worked very closely with our local partners Gioco News to compile. The programme will look at the major issues influencing the future of the industry in Italy from the perspectives of operators, suppliers, regulators, politicians and professional sports organisations to give a comprehensive picture of what is happening.”

The SBC Digital Italia conference agenda also features sessions on how to create a sustainable future for the Italian gambling industry, the challenge of reshaping the retail gambling sector, igaming marketing strategies, the battle against match-fixing, and how to build on the growth the online market has enjoyed over the last 12 months.

The confirmed speakers include Fabio Schiavolin (CEO, SNAITECH), Guglielmo Angelozzi (CEO, Lottomatica), Francesco Durante (CEO, Sisal), Markus Buechele (CEO, Novomatic Italia), Roberto Ribaudo (director, Interpol Italia Division), Carla Ramella (director of customs and monopoly – Central Public Administration, Sogei), Claudio Durigon (undersecretary, Ministry of Economy & Finance), Stefano Delfini (criminal analysis service director, Criminal Police Central Directorate, Ministry of Interior), Claudio Marinelli (project manager, criminal intelligence officer, Interpol), Luca Turchi (director of gaming control, Office of Games Management, ADM) and Ugo Taucer (attorney general, Italian National Olympic Committee).

In addition to the conference, SBC Digital Italia will feature a virtual exhibition with 20 leading suppliers showcasing their latest innovations tailored for the Italian market, and a selection of networking opportunities.
