Spribe’s licence under review in Sweden

Spribe OÜ’s operations are set to go under the microscope of Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s gaming regulators.

The regulatory body confirmed that Spribe is one of three suppliers set for a regulatory review, alongside Epic88 Ltd and Gamomat Distribution GmbH.

All three are related to compliance with Chapter 11, Section 6e of Sweden’s Gambling Act.

“The provision means that an operator who has a license for gaming software may not manufacture, provide, install or modify gaming software for anyone who does not have the necessary license under the Gambling Act,” stated Spelinspektionen.

Once the review is complete, Spelinspektionen confirmed that the results will be published. However, no timeline has been provided for this process.

UK suspension

Alongside Sweden, the supplier is licensed in Malta, Gibraltar, the Netherlands and Ontario, among various other jurisdictions across Europe, Africa and the Americas.

However, Spribe has faced challenges in the UK after the UK Gambling Commission confirmed that it had suspended the company’s licence in October.

The UKGC accused Spribe of failing to hold the required licence for hosting the services it was undertaking by hosting casino games on behalf of operators without the appropriate remote casino game host licence.

Spribe had held a UK remote gambling software licence since 2020.

In response, Spribe acknowledged the regulator’s position in a statement describing the issue as “a technical licensing gap” that was not recognised during its original 2020 application.

“Spribe applied for and was given a remote gambling software licence in 2020. However, our business model also requires a remote casino game host licence. That is a technical licensing issue that was not recognised in the original application process in 2020,” added the statement.

The company confirmed that it is now preparing a licence variation application to add the required permissions for remote casino game hosting and is working “urgently to ensure full technical and legal compliance.”
