Publishing its financial records for January and February 2022, the Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, revealed that within the first two months of 2022, the performance of gaming machine revenue within the Danish market managed to offset the losses from sports betting and online casinos.

For the first two months, the biggest driver of revenue was slot machines, recording an increase to DKK 131m (€17.6m), with DKK 22m (€2.9m) in January and DKK 109m (€14.6m) in February.

Moreover, the reports detailed that Denmark’s total GGR increased by 16 per cent during the first two months of the year to DKK 1.05bn (€141.1m).

Land-based casinos, on the other hand, witnessed an increase in revenue to over DKK 31m (€4.1m) – all of which was taken in February due to the casino sector reopening during that month after being shut due to pandemic lockdown restrictions.

In comparison, revenue for its online counterpart experienced a slight decline of 0.2 per cent from DKK 476m (€63.9m) in January and February 2021 to DKK 475m (€63.8m),

Proving to be a more lucrative month for online casino, January saw a revenue increase of 1.4 per cent to DKK 261m (€35m) from DKK 258m (€34.6m), whilst February saw a drop of two per cent from DKK 218m (€29.3m) to DKK 214m (€28.7m).
