Carlos Pellicer, Head of Games at R. Franco Digital, has claimed the idea behind the TimeLab saga was to create a ‘brand image of R. Franco’ that would be ‘easy’ for users to ‘instantly recognise’.
Last month, R. Franco Digital released the sequel to its Time Lab title with Time Lab II – Olympic Games. The 5×3, 30 payline slot showcases a ‘highly responsive’ user interface as ‘fan favourite’ Dr. Random takes players on an adventure through the ages, encountering a range of wilds, respins, and bonuses along the way.
SlotBeats spoke to Pellicer about the success of the series stating the inclusion of two ‘distinctive characters’ made it easy for users to instantly recognise R. Franco as a brand. He also added: “At the same time, it would allow us to create different settings and scenarios thanks to the concept of time travel. Within this theme, we’re continuously designing new slots with different mechanics and settings that transport us through different times and adventures.
“The concept of continuity that a saga brings is working very well for us. Sprinkle in our meticulous game design and solidly proven mathematics, and you have an excellent recipe for success. In the words of our commercial director: “We are not at all surprised, but we are delighted that TimeLab has won over our customers. Its unique theme has been a hit from the moment of its launch, and we are convinced it will continue to grow as the saga incorporates new adventures.”
“We’re in the process of executing a number of plans to set up shop across a wealth of new markets.”
Pellicer discussed the development process and the inspirations behind the slot title where he highlighted that collaborating with its product, marketing, and commercial areas together to review what’s ‘resonating’ with its players led them to ‘conclude’ that its customers preferred games that offered an ‘ongoing story’.
“After plenty of meetings with a raft of proposals for themes and settings, the TimeLab saga was born. This concept allowed us to have an infinite number of settings without any kind of creative limits on our thinking!
“The TimeLab story begins in a laboratory housed in the eccentric Dr. Random’s basement. As a result of multiple experiments, the doctor manages to build a time machine with the help of his sidekick Franky and of course, the player themselves.
“In this second instalment, Dr Random and his inseparable friend Franky return with their incredible time machine to travel to ancient Greece and visit the legendary Olympics. TimeLab: Olympic games is a slot composed of five reels, three rows and 20 lines, on a background of the Olympic stadium of ancient Greece where athletes give their all as they compete on the sand.”
When asked if the company were targeting any particular markets, Pellicer noted: “We’re in the process of executing a number of plans to set up shop across a wealth of new markets. With our MGA licence pending, we are sure TimeLab will win over our new players as soon as we’re ready to go live in these new jurisdictions.
“In terms of existing markets, our games are already translated into 11 languages – and we hope that our global thinking when it comes to entertainment will prove key in fuelling our rapid expansion. We’ll also be launching multi-currency support soon enough to go with our slots, allowing all users to play with their local currency.”
“We know what players are looking for right now in terms of gameplay during this unprecedented time…”
Moving the conversation toward the game’s features, Pellicer explained that its user interaction was an ‘essential’ component towards the success of a slot.
“In the saga players can find various bonuses where user interaction is key and accumulators that multiply the winnings of the bonuses.” Pellicer explained. “There are phases of free spins in which different mechanics are offered so that the player can choose which one best suits their tastes or they feel is luckiest.
“Expandable Wilds also stay glued to the screen as they activate new free spins and unleash big prizes. But it doesn’t stop there – we’ve got plenty more new mechanics in the pipeline that have already proven themselves well, but we’re not going to reveal them just yet! We want the players to discover each of the new adventures in our saga for themselves.”
Looking towards the near future, Pellicer stated ‘it’s going to be all about delivering fresh and innovative themes to the market’ which will ‘entertain players the world over’.
“We know what players are looking for right now in terms of gameplay during this unprecedented time, and our titles will be jam packed with a wealth of attractive mechanics that offer bonus phases, free spins and the like.
“Our reSpin feature has also proven hugely popular, and we will look to continue to adapt it in different ways for our future games, as well as introducing multi-line slots with mechanics that unlock many more new lines.”
