As the links between video games and online casino continue to be taken to new levels, the Game Play series discovers how key characters within the gambling industry embarked on their gaming journey.

In this week’s Game Play feature, we spoke to Mitri Wiberg, Co-CEO & Founder at Peter & Sons, about a “groundbreaking” introduction to social gaming through Quake, the mobile games that he finds “easy to get drawn into” and how the Halo universe has expanded.

Are you a PC or console gamer? What was your first home gaming experience?

I’ve always been more of a PC gamer, though my first experience was on a Spectrum. I vividly remember playing Hunchback – the name stuck with me over the years.

What is your favourite game of all time and why?

My favourite game of all time has to be Quake. We played it for years, and it was a huge part of my gaming journey. The fast-paced multiplayer, combined with strategy, made it incredibly immersive. It wasn’t just about the action but the social experience – Quake brought people together in a way that felt groundbreaking at the time.

Last video game completed?

The last game I completed was Cypher 007 on iOS, developed by Pixelbite. It’s an engaging, espionage-themed game that drew me in with its stealth mechanics and clever level design. I’ve been a fan of Pixelbite’s games for a while, so diving into their take on spy missions was a great experience.

What mobile game have you spent the most time playing?

Clash of Clans, for sure. The combination of strategy and building your base was addictive, and the multiplayer element kept me hooked. It’s easy to get drawn into the long-term progression and teamwork involved in clan wars.

Which mobile game are you currently playing?

I still play Clash Royale occasionally when I have some free time. It’s quick, strategic, and easy to pick up for short bursts, which is perfect since I don’t have much time for gaming these days.

Favourite video game character?

Master Chief from Halo isn’t necessarily my favourite character, but he’s definitely one that stuck with me. The game was groundbreaking, and the marketing around it was impressive. Now with the TV series, it ties everything together really well. Seeing how the Halo universe has expanded beyond just the games has been pretty cool to watch.

Favourite all time slot?

I don’t really have a favourite —I try new ones all the time. But if I had to choose, I’d say Barbarossa Revenge – No bias there, of course!
