SG Digital walks through its OpenGaming titles for January

SG Digital has released its monthly video highlighting the titles that have been released in the first month of 2021 on its OpenGaming platform.

Conducted by Matt Ramsden, OpenGaming marketing at SG Digital, the video walks us through titles such as Orbs of Osiris from Live 5 and the company’s own Rainbow Riches Race Day.

Joining Ramsden on the video was Mat Parker, chief product officer and Oliver Vlaytchev, director of operations at Live 5 Gaming alongside Craig Turner, content specialist at SG Digital.

Commenting on Orbs of Osiris, Parker noted it was ‘something different’ in its portfolio that presents symbols and wins to players in a ‘different way’.

“It did throw up a few challenges for us along the way,” he explained. “Especially things you take for granted like anticipation because the anticipation on a real spinning you’re sort of you do well and you take it for granted, you darken off the symbols you highlight the reel that you are anticipating on and it became obvious pretty quickly within the development that we also had to build this tension and anticipation.

“The challenges along the way were interesting, this digging down the layers was interesting to us, whether we could make that work and bring the excitement to the game through a different way of presenting the symbols and the wins.”

Explaining the development process of Orbs of Osiris, Vlaytchev added that the title is, essentially, a ‘mash up’ of various titles that the company didn’t feel ‘100 per cent’ with.

He added: “We had this idea that we wanted to do a game where things reveal underneath but it took us a while to get to where the end result is.

“We looked also at what other products are out there, what other games that do something that little bit different, we wanted to put a bit of a twist on a cascade as well but it was a good yield research experimentation, having a bit of fun with it as well.”

Pressed by Ramsden on how the developers got the balance right in relation to attracting new players while appeasing the Rainbow Riches fan base, Turner noted it’s about giving the core Rainbow Riches players what they have grown accustomed to seeing while enhancing it to become more engaging.

“I think it’s about giving your core Rainbow Riches customer base that look and feel that they love… but moving it on and making it more of a fun and engaging game. Rainbow Riches is solid but it’s very simple,” he explained.

“The aim of this game is to go after the Cheltenham, Grand National, sportsbook cross-sell. What we’re hoping operators do is back it with a Free Spin campaign or a stake x get x, give it to the sportsbook players, get them engaged and with the horserace on top that gets them locked in and hopefully then they’ll come back and they’ll want to complete the race.”
