In the penultimate article of our Spotlight Series delving into the influx in fishing-themed slot titles, we ask our experts to reveal what markets are experiencing a strong performance of this genre and how far its reach can extend.

What markets are currently embracing the theme and just how far can its popularity reach?

Henry McLean, 4ThePlayer: So far, we’ve seen a good response from all markets globally. We are in the process of going live in New Jersey in the USA and our US customers are as excited to launch it as our European customers have been.

Jo Purvis, Blueprint Gaming: The beauty of a theme like fishing and a brand like ours is that is so universally adored that it has been met with success wherever it has been operated.

Fishing, while not everyone’s cup of tea, is a pastime that is enjoyed globally so we would have no hesitation in introducing it whenever we enter new markets for the first time, in fact, it’s one of the many titles we can rely on to perform when we move into new regions.

Helen Walton, G.Games: UK and Nordics seem to be the key ones. But the idea of catching fish as a metaphor for catching a prize – we all know that works in Asian countries as well, so I don’t see why it shouldn’t have a much wider popularity.

Ivan Kravchuk, Evoplay: Given that the more leisurely take on fishing is a popular pastime in European and western cultures, fishing-themed titles tend to perform well in these regions.

Conversely, players from Asian countries raised in a different culture enjoy a more pragmatic approach to fishing, so such games could and should be adapted to their paradigms.

Lloyd William Robets, Blue Guru Games: It’s a popular theme everywhere, it’s particularly strong in the UK. Perhaps we have an army of fishermen who have had it with the incessant rain.
